Written/ Knowledge test overview:

  • The Written/ knowledge test is used to ensure you understand road signs, traffic laws, and safe driving practices before you drive on the roadway.
  • 40 questions on the test
  • 32 Correct answers to pass
  • Can miss 8 questions
  • Paper and pencil not on the computer
  • A passing test score is good for two years
  • Offered in English, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese
  • All fees must be paid before the test begins. (We accept all major credit cards, cash, money order but no personal checks)

Eligibility Requirements

  • Picture ID (e.g. government-issued ID)
  • WA ID # (a random number that starts WDL or with the first five letters of your last name)

In-class guide refresher course

2 hours brushup course before taking the WA knowledge test or if you are having difficulties passing it. We go into detail over traffics laws, rules of the road, parking rules, distracted driving, adjusting to road conditions, school bus laws, WA alcohol & marijuana laws, etc. Providing insight into how you should react to your environment.

Retaking Written/ Knowledge test:

The applicant can retake the written/ knowledge tests as many times as necessary with no waiting period to pass. However, each time you take the test the fee will be applied.

Testing Scores:

Scores for the Written/ Knowledge will be reported to the Department of Licensing electronically within 24 hours. Passing the written/ knowledge does not guarantee that an applicant will be issued a driver’s license. The DOL will determine if an applicant has met all the licensing requirements. The Department of Licensing reserves the right to retest applicants who complete the test through us. Retesting is done at random and at no cost to the applicant.

Terms and Conditions:

1 BAL DRIVING SCHOOL, LLC reserves the right to refuse the service; in that case, you may test at the DOL. If you need a special service such as testing in a foreign language or require special assistance, the DOL requires that you take the test with them.
